My role as publisher of CGN combines my love of culture with a passion for producing a vital publication that serves the Midwest's art community and fosters an appreciation of art.
I have been publisher and owner of CGN since 2007. I began working at Chicago Gallery News with founding publisher Natalie van Straaten in 2002 after graduating from Hamilton College. I also worked for the Chicago Art Dealers Association (CADA) from 2002–2007.
In addition to publishing CGN and regularly attending gallery and museum events, Ginny is a mother to two busy and creative children, whom she likes to bring on trips and adventures to see art whenever possible.

Ginny B. Van Alyea has been the publisher and owner of CGN since 2007. She began working at Chicago Gallery News with founding publisher Natalie van Straaten in 2002 after graduating from Hamilton College. Ginny also worked for the Chicago Art Dealers Association (CADA) from 2002–2007.

As a mother of two young children, art is regularly a part of our life and especially our travel. I often use art as an avenue to adventure and enjoy writing about traveling with children and encouraging their own encounters with art from all periods and mediums.
I enjoy attending gallery openings, visiting art fairs, meeting working artists and traveling to other cities to see art. Artists play an important role in translating current topics through a creative lens. As CGN publisher I seek to elevate artists and their art and create connections between makers and patrons in order to create sustainable culture.

Ginny has written extensively about collecting art in Chicago and has interviewed dozens of artists and gallery owners over the years. She has been a featured speaker at national art fairs and panels, sharing the importance and joy of collecting contemporary art and antiques and of supporting living artists.
